Connect A Lab Tech, Train A Lab Tech”.

Laboratory science technicians from different educational institutions across the country gathered for the launch of the Zimbabwe Science Laboratory Technicians Trust (ZSLT) that was held on the 27th of April 2017 in Bulawayo.

ZSLT is an association comprising laboratory technicians from Secondary/High school and Tertiary institutions that aims to establish standards and certification for laboratory technicians. The initiative aims at providing a quality global training platform for the laboratory technicians with the latest trends and innovations in the continuously evolving field of science.

Addressing members of the fraternity at the launch, Dr. Michael Bhebe, a laboratory technician in the Faculty of Medicine at Midlands State University, outlined the various objectives of the association among them, the drive to continuously encourage and promote links between laboratory technicians and the rest of the science and technology community in order to enhance the image of the profession.

Running under the theme “Connect a lab tech, train a lab tech,” key note speakers addressed various topics and issues that laboratory technicians face in conducting their duties such as the disposal of chemicals, scientific regulations and safety issues.

Laboratory technicians from Midlands State University were conspicuous by their presence, attending the event in significant numbers, as ZSLT got off to a flying start.
