OBJECTIVES

The programme seeks to expose students to various socio-economic issues that affect the development of societies across the world, from a historical perspective.

The programme endeavours to equip students with theoretical, conceptual, ideological and practical skills necessary for the training of these students as historians.

PROGRAMMES

B.A HONOURS IN HISTORY & DEVELOPMENTAL STUDIES

B.A (Hons) in History and Development Studies is a four-year, full-time Honours degree programme designed for undergraduates in the Department of Economic and Social History.The programme offers core/compulsory modules as well as optional modules, the latter of which can be sourced from within the Department and/or across faculties.The programme incorporates a six-month attachment period during the third year as well as a dissertation. The attachment is a prescribed period (in this case of six months) of practical experience in a relevant industrial, commercial or professional setting. Notwithstanding the importance attached to a dissertation in an Honours degree programme, students have the option of doing two core modules in place of a dissertation.Special attention should drawn to the following points:

At least four modules are covered per semester.

Elective module(s) should be relevant to the needs of the students of Economic and Social History.

Each of the modules is examinable at the end of each semester.

Flexible packaging is limited to the first two years of the degree programme.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

Normal Entry 

For normal entry into the Department of economic & Social History, candidates should have satisfied the general normal entry requirements for undergraduate degrees of the Midlands State University.

Candidates must meet the general entry requirements for the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences.

Candidates must possess: “A” Level History or its equivalent.

“A” Level Economics will be an added advantage.

Special and Mature entry

Candidates should have satisfied the general academic regulations for special as well as mature entry for undergraduate degrees of the Midlands State University.
