About the Department

The Gender Studies Department is a service department within the Faculty of Education. The main module taught in the department is “Introduction to Gender Studies” which is a university – wide module, taught to all undergraduate students across faculties at Level Two Semester One. The module aims to empower students with the knowledge, attitudes and skills to create and live in gender sensitive societies.

Objectives:

As students go through the module, it is expected that they will:

  • Become gender sensitive in all their professional undertakings.
  • Develop skills for gender analysis with a view to carry out the process.
  • Suggest solutions to gender problems common in Southern Africa.
  • Contribute towards the creation of gender – empowered societies.

The other module taught in the department is “Gender Studies in Education” which is taught  to Masters in Education Students at Level Two Semester One.
